Abstract

When a Ne:HCl sample is codeposited at approximately 5 K with a beam of neon atoms that has been excited in a microwave discharge, the vibrational fundamental absorption of HCl+ is detected in the infrared spectrum of the sample deposit. Less prominent absorptions of H2Cl+ are also detected, as is a relatively broad absorption of (HCl)n Shifts from the positions of the gas-phase HCl-stretching absorptions are approximately 1%. When O2 is added to the sample mixture, infrared absorptions assigned to the OO- and HCl+ stretching vibrations of the O2HCl+ complex are identified.
