Abstract

When a Ne:HCl sample is codeposited at approximately 5 K with a beam of neon atoms that has been excited in a microwave discharge, the vibrational fundamental absorption of $H_Cl^{+}$ is detected in the infrared spectrum of the sample deposit. Less prominent absorptions of $H_{2} Cl^{+}$ are also detected, as is a relatively broad absorption of $(HCl)_{n}^{-}$ Shifts from the positions of the gas-phase HCl-stretching absorptions are approximately 1\%. When $O_{2}$ is added to the sample mixture, infrared absorptions assigned to the OO- and $HCl-^{+}$ stretching vibrations of the $O_{2} \cdots HCl^{+}$ complex are identified.
