Abstract

Chlorine monoxide has been generated in a flow-through apparatus by reacting chlorine atoms with ozone. A tunable diode laser has been used to observe the lines of both isotopes and the $\Omega = 3/2$ and $1/2$ states. The band centers, using microwave determinations of the ground state and first vibrational state rotational constants, are determined to be $843.961 cm^{-1}$ and $836.786 cm^{-1}$ for the $^{35}$C1 and $^{37}$C1 isotopes of the $\Omega = 3/2$ levels and $841,839 cm^{-1}$ and $834.59 cm^{-1}$ for the $^{35}C1$ and $^{37}C1$ isotope of the $\Omega= 1/2$ levels, respectively. The absorption strengths were measured using the previously determined UV cross sections to determine the C10 abundance. A precise determination of several C10 lines were made using a $^{14}CO_{2}$ laser heterodyne spectrometer.
