Abstract

The techniques of high resolution Raman spectroscopy were used in an investigation of the rotational spectra of Hg(CH3)2 and Hg(CD3)2. The spectra were photographical in the second order of 21-ft, grating (6.7 cm−1/mm). Lines of the S branches with J up to about 100 were observed: their s pacing is about 0.46cm−1 for the lighter molecule and about 0.36 cm−1 for the deuterated species. An analysis gave the values Bo=0.1162 and 0.0912 cm−1 and IB=(240.9±0.4)×10−40 and (306.9±0.7)×10−40 gm cm2 for Hg(CH3)2 and Hg(CD3)2 respectively. The interruclear distance r(C-Hg) was determined to be 2.094±0.005\AA.
