Abstract

“The Raman spectra of single crystals of adipic acid and sebacic acid have been photographed for the first time using $\lambda$ 2537 radiation. 66 Raman lines in the spectrum of adipic acid and 56 lines- in sebacic acid have been recorded. The spectra have been classified into low frequency external and hydrogen bond vibrations, internal frequencies and overtone and combination frequencies. From intensity considerations the rotational lattice oscillations have been identified. The low frequency hydrogen bond vibration has been assigned by a comparison with the frequency of this mode calculated using the hydrogen lengths reported in x-ray structure investigations. Tentative assignments of all the observed internal, overtone and combination frequencies have been given by a comparison with the available infrared absorption frequencies and known crystal structures of these acids.”
