Abstract

This paper focuses on organ trafficking across the globe, examining both sellers and buyers and the complex structures that have created this market. It analyzes both the social structures, gender norms and family traditions along with the economic systems and education and how that creates a common victimology especially in the countries of Bangladesh and Pakistan. The economic systems of Bangladesh and Pakistan play a large role in the continuation of organ trafficking in these countries so there will also be research on microloans and how colonialism impacts the current economic situations of both countries. As organ trafficking is often an invisible crime meaning that the statistics that are reported are often misleading because of how little the crime is reported. Organ trafficking is rarely reported for a number of reasons such as fear of implication, but it is further compounded by the laws and financial aid of both buyer and seller countries. This paper will examine how the combination of social norms, laws and economic structures create a system that goes largely unreported and targets 'invisible communities' and that until these underlying structures are addressed vulnerable communities will continue to be taken advantage of.
