Abstract
Howard R. Maier describes his student days at OSU, including his role as business manager for the student humor magazine, The Sundial. Maier, the son of Austrian refugees, grew up in Cleveland, and decided to attend OSU after a visit to campus during high school. Because of his financial need and good academic standing in high school, Maier was selected to live in the Stadium Scholarship Dormitories. He describes life in the tower dorm, where he lived for four years. Maier also recounts his experiences drawing cartoons and serving as business manager of The Sundial magazine, a position he was asked to fill when he wasn’t yet a sophomore. Maier recounts many of the responsibilities and some of benefits of the position. He also talks about how his studies as an undergrad at OSU led to his career in city and regional planning. Maier also discusses a cartoon he drew that led to his involvement in an animated film about city planning that he used to fulfill his master’s degree in city and regional planning.
