Abstract
The phosphorescence microwave double resonance methods were used to observe the effects of inter- and intramolecular hydrogen bonding and chlorinated solvents on the lowest triplet state of o-, m-, and p-hydroxybenzaldehydes. Correlation of the vibronic activity observed in the optical phosphorescence spectra, the total rate constants for the phosphorescence process and the zero field splittings due to spin-spin and spin-orbit interactions are noted as a function of the various solvents.
