Abstract

Measurement of the Hanle effect for the N = 3, K = 0 and N = 9, K = 0 P branch lines of the $^{2}B_{2}$ rotational band at 5933 {\AA} has been made via pulsed narrow bandwidth laser excitation. This measurement gives evidence that the lines do not follow Hund’s case (b), showing approximately the same magnetic halfwidth (and lifetime) for both lines. In addition, the halfwidths are greater than expected. Measurement of relative fluorescence polarization for the two lines approximately follows theory. Difficulties were found in separating a long lifetime component (about 70 $\mu$sec) from the measured lines (about 20 $\mu$sec).
