Abstract

In our attempt to obtain the complete structure of $C_{2}H_{2}^{+}, 1$ we are studying the v1 fundamental vibration-rotation band of $HCCD^{+} (^{2}\Pi_{u})$. The monodeuterated acetylene cation is produced in a liquid nitrogen-cooled AC-glow discharge with a gas mixture of $He : H_{2} : CD_{4}: CH_{4} (700: 4: 4:1)$ with a total pressure of = 7 torr. The spectra around the assumed band origin of the monodeuterated species were recorded using a difference frequency spectrometer and velocity modulation. The monodeuterated cation is of special interest for radioastronomical search of the acetylene ion in interstellar space and planetary ionospheres because of the presence of an effective permanent dipole moment. The spectroscopic study of $CH_{2}D^{+}$ is also underway for the same purpose.
