Abstract

Dr. Richard Hill received his Ph.D. from the School of Optometry at Berkeley, and in 1963 accepted an appointment at Ohio State. He spent 40 years in the program, serving first as Professor, then as Dean of the College. When, in 1964 Ohio State became the first university to offer the Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree, Dr. Hill was involved in planning the curriculum expansion required by the new degree. In 1988 Dr. Hill was promoted from Associate Dean to Dean. The curriculum was modernized under Dr. Hill's leadership, and the College moved to a fourteen-quarter curriculum. Since his retirement, Dr. Hill has continued to be extremely active as a contact lens and corneal researcher, and he has given lectures all over the world. Dr. Hill also has been very active in the Ohio State University Retirees Association (OSURA), and he served as its President in 1999-2000
