Abstract

In our recent paper, we obtained the approximate solution useful to describe the equivalent width of two overlapping $lines.^{1}$ G. N. Plass criticized that the error arising in our calculation of some cases for complete overlapping was rather $large.^{2}$ Although his proposed solutions gave excellent results in a few specific cases where they were made applicable, a unified solution which can cover all cases while introducing a negligible error is more useful to this problem. This paper derives such a general solution and discusses its merit.
