Abstract

An electronic spectrum is observed for the new heteronuclear metal dimer, MgLi. This dimer is produced by laser vaporization of a Mg rod that is coated with a thin, vacuum deposited Li layer in a pulsed nozzle cluster source. Resonant Two-Photon Ionization (R2PI) is used to collect the spectra for the $^{24}Mg^{7}Li$, $^{25}Mg_{7}Li$, and $^{26}Mg^{7}Li$ isotopomers. One short band system is observed around 320 nm. Preliminary analysis of this excited state yields the following spectroscopic constants:$$\omega_{e}^{\prime}=260 \mbox{cm}^{-1}, \omega_{e}x_{e}^{\prime}=4 \mbox{cm}^{-1}$$
