Debra Moddelmog discusses how she chose academia as a career and the trajectory of this career to Professor of English at Ohio State. She discusses issues of gender equality in her department and College, as well as the effect of her lesbianism on her career and teaching. She also discusses people who influenced her and people she has influenced, particularly students who are dealing with sexual-identity issues, who have come to her for advice. In addition, she discusses her involvement in initiatives to promote diversity and equity at OSU, from the department to University-wide level, particularly in developing and leading OSU’s Diversity and Identity Studies Collective (DISCO).
