Abstract

The Ohio State University (OSU) has an estimated average of 60,000 students, faculty, and staff that commute in a personal vehicle on weekdays during the two primary academic semesters. To reduce the environmental footprint of people commuting to main campus we investigate three proposals. First, expanding parking area fullness counters. Second, expanding campus busing services to offer transit between main and branch campuses. Third, expanding work-from-home and online class offerings. We calculate that if these three proposals were fully implemented they could collectively reduce yearly CO2 emissions by more than 16 thousand metric tons.
