Abstract
Circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) is used to probe the binding of trivalent lanthanide ions to nucleosides and nucleotides in aqueous solution under various pH conditions . CPL is found to be extraordinarily sensitive to both the nature of the ligand binding moieties and the overall conformational features of the ligand. CPL data will be reported for a variety of $Ln^{3+}$ - nucleotide and $Ln^{3+ }$- nucleoside systems, and interpretations of these data in terms of structural features of the complexes will be discussed.
