Abstract

A photoacoustic apparatus has been assembled employing a piezoelectric pressure transducer in a pressurized (ca. 40 atm.) cell, and a cw CO2, laser providing about 1 watt on about 90 lines. The u3 (C-C stretching) vibrational mode of ethane has been studied. Preliminary observations include the spectrum of (C2H6)2 van der Waals molecule, and the collision-induced absorption spectra of ArC2H6 and HeC2H6 mixtures. The latter will be interpreted in terms of collisional dipole moments.
