Abstract

“The frequency shifts of transitions between levels of a polar symmetric top molecule due to an electric field are largest for those having J approximately equal to K and both J and K small. The difference signal arising from an A.C. electric field applied to the gas weights the transitions accordingly, and considerably reduces the complexity due to the overlapping of the P and R branch lines of the K sub-bands, so that the different branches can be readily recognized. Results will be shown for $\nu_{4}$ of $CH_{3}F$.”
