Abstract

The first spectroscopic study of thioformyl chloride, CHClS, was carried-out by Judge and Moule.1 They photographed the electronic spectrum between the A~1A′′←X~1A′ and a~3A′′←X~1A′ states in absorption at a dispersion of 1.5 nn/mm. Apart from this work no other spectroscopic data was available on this molecule until now.

Description

CHClS is a short-lived molecule that is generated by the pyrolysis of chloromethyle-methyl-sulphide, ClCH2SCH3, at about 600∘C (1). The experiment was carried-out using a glass body multipass long path cell with a path length of 7 meters, through which the pyrolysis products flowed continuously. A Bomen FTIR spectrometer was used to collect high resolution ro-vibrational spectra of the fundamentals. the results will be discussed. 1 R.H. Judge and D.C. Moule, J. Mol. Spec. 113, 77-84 (1985).
