Abstract
The first spectroscopic study of thioformyl chloride, CHClS, was carried-out by Judge and $Moule.{^{1}}$ They photographed the electronic spectrum between the $\tilde{A}^{1}A^{\prime\prime}\leftarrow\tilde{X}^{1}A^{\prime}$ and $\tilde{a}^{3}A^{\prime\prime}\leftarrow\tilde{X}^{1}A^{\prime}$ states in absorption at a dispersion of 1.5 nn/mm. Apart from this work no other spectroscopic data was available on this molecule until now.
Description
CHClS is a short-lived molecule that is generated by the pyrolysis of chloromethyle-methyl-sulphide, $ClCH_{2}SCH_{3}$, at about 600$^{\circ}$C (1). The experiment was carried-out using a glass body multipass long path cell with a path length of 7 meters, through which the pyrolysis products flowed continuously. A Bomen FTIR spectrometer was used to collect high resolution ro-vibrational spectra of the fundamentals. the results will be discussed. $^{1}$ R.H. Judge and D.C. Moule, J. Mol.
