Abstract
Susan Hartmann discusses her career at Ohio State, beginning with her appointment as the Director of the Center for Women’s Studies from 1986 to 1992. She also was professor of History from 1986 to 2011, as well as professor of Women’s Studies from 1986 until about 2002. In addition, she served as a Faculty Athletics Representative from 1995 to 2003. Highlights of the interview include her academic career, including getting a doctorate in history from the University of Missouri, thanks to an NDEA (National Defense Education Act) Fellowship. She also discusses the transition from a Center for Women’s Studies to a Department of Women’s Studies, and her role in general, as well as the role of women overall, at Ohio State.
