Abstract

The hydroxysilylene, HSiOH, and the fluorosilylene, HSiF, have been isolated in solid argon. Frequencies for all the infrared active modes of the two molecules have been accurately measured. Band assignments for trans- HSiOH, trans- and cis- HSiOD and DSiOD have been made. The SiOH bond angle has been calculated for a planar structure of Cs symmetry using the Redlich-Teller product rule and the torsional frequencies for HSiOH, HSiOD and DSiOD. Normal coordinate analyses have been carried out using the measured frequencies for six isotopomers of hydroxysilylene, namely, HSiOH, HSiOD, DSiOD, HSi18OH,HSi18OD and DSi18OD, and for two isotopomers of fluorosilylene, HSiF and DSiF. It was shown that it is possible to transfer the force constants of HSiF to the large molecule HSiOH.
