Infrared spectra of nitric oxide adsorbed on silica-supported metals; Fe, Co and Ni have been studied in the range from $1250-4000cm-1$. A single band was observed for NO on $Ni-SiO2$ at $1860cm-1$ whereas two distinctive bands of comparable intensity were observed for NO on both $Fe-SiO2$ (at 1812 and $1755cm-1$) and $Co-SiO2$ (at 1865 and $1795cm-1$). The effects of pretreatment, surface coverage and equilibrium pressure and temperature on the spectra of chemisorbed NO have been investigated. The nature of chemisorbed species and the interaction of carbon monoxide, oxygen, and water vapor with the chemisorbed NO will be discussed.
