Abstract

Internal rotation, inversion and nuclear quadrupole effects were observed in the ground and excited torsional states of twelve isotopic species of dimethylamine. From the b- and c-type inversion-rotation transitions the structural parameters were calculated. The inversion doubling is a strong function of the torsional quantum numbers while the quadrupole coupling constants are unchanged. Internal rotation quartets have been resolved in the excited torsional states leading to a barrier of 3.2 kcal.
