Abstract

Multiconfiguration SCF potential energy curves and wavefunctions have been obtained for the 1Σg+, 3Πg, 3Πu, 1Πg, 1Πu, 1Σu+, and 1Σu+ states of Mg2. The 3Πg, 3Σu+, 3Σu+, and 1Πu states are found to be bound, with the 1Πu state exhibiting a large barrier. The 3Πg state lies at a lower energy than the 3Σu+ state. Single configuration results for the 2Σu+ and 2Πu states of Mg2+ have also been obtained.
