Abstract
The infrared-active vibration-rotation band $\nu_{1} + \nu_{3}$ of $^{32}S^{16}O_{2}$ has been measured with spectral resolution of about $0.15 cm^{-1}$. Quantum number identifications of spectral lines were made by comparison with theoretically computed spectra which include the effects of centrifugal $distortion.^{1}$ The band center for $\nu_{1} + \nu_{3}$ was determined to be 2499.60 + 0.10 $cm^{-1}$. An absolute band intensity has also been measured in this work, and the magnitude of the dipole moment derivative ${\partial}^{2}{\mu_{a}}/{\partial Q_{1}}{\partial Q_{3}}$ was evaluated. Potential applications of these results to atmospheric problems will be discussed. $^{1}$ The theoretical approach in the present work is the same as that used by R.J. Corice, JR., K. Fox, and G.D.T. Tejwani, J. Chem. Phys. 58, 265 (1973) for the detailed line-by-line analysis of the fundamental bands of $SO_{2}$.
