Abstract

The reaction between nickel atoms and molecular fluorine produces a chemiluminescent flame arising primarily from the NiF molecule. A partial vibrational analysis for four band systems of NiF indicated that the ground state vibrational frequency of $-625$ $cm^{-1}$, not $740$ $cm^{-}1$ as reported previously. An energy analysis of the high energy emission features indicated that the dissociation energy of NiF is $4.4 + .2 $eV.
