Abstract

The discharge emission spectrum of CrO has been investigated with high resolution Fourier transform spectroscopy in the region 6000 -- 12000cm−1. Complicated groups of bands occur in the region 7000--10000 cm−1, of which one, near 8000cm−1, has been identified as the (0,0) band of a new 5ΣX5Πr transition of CrO. The perpendicular polarization of this transition permits a direct determination of the A-doubling parameters and the spin-orbit coupling constants of the ground state, which was not possible form the analysis of the 5Π5Π transitions in the visible region.1 1W.
