Abstract

Spectra and the theoretical background of electronic Raman transitions of trivalent rare earth ions shall be discussed. Special attention shall be given to the differences of the electronic and vibrational Raman effect, with emphasis on the occurrence of an anti-symmetric scattering tensor of the former. Also the results of a Zeeman-Raman (Zaman?) experiment will be shown and commented upon. This research is supported by the Defence Board and National Research Council of Canada.
