Abstract

A tunable, nitrogen-laser-pumped dye laser has been used to probe the ground state products produced in the flame of tin vapor plus molecular fluorine. Chemiluminescence and laser induced fluorescence spectra of the $A^{2}\Sigma \leftrightarrow X^{2}\Pi$ system of SnF have been identified. By tuning the dye laser to appropriate wavelengths, the population ratios, i.e., vibrational temperatures, of the $X^{2} \Pi_{3/2,\;1/2}$ states were studied. In addition to the laser induced spectra, time-resolved fluorescence signals were obtained and the radiative lifetime of the $A^{2}\Sigma$ state was determined.
