Abstract

We have examined the region from 30,080cmāˆ’1 to 31,270cmāˆ’1 and discovered that the D 2Ī£ state observed by Fowler1 is actually v=1 of the C′ 2Ī£ state2 which is consistent with theoretical calculations3,4. With this new information, we have rearranged the CaF Rydberg series described by Murphy et.al.5. The C′ state is now assigned as the second member of the ā€˜s’ Ī£ series. We also examined the region from 34,500cmāˆ’1 to 37,500cmāˆ’1 and found a new 2Ī£ state at nāˆ—=3.176 which has been assigned as the first member of the ā€˜p’ Ī£ series.
