Abstract
The infrared spectrum of solid $[(CH_{3})_{3}(NH_{3})_{3}Pt]$ Cl and the Raman spectrum of the aqueous solution have been interpreted on the basis of $C_{3v}$ symmetry for the complex ion. Assignment was helped by examination of the $ND_{3}$ analogue. Features of the Raman spectrum were the occurrence of $\nu(Pt-C)$ at $584 cm^{-1}$ and $\nu(Pt-N)$ at $390 cm^{-1}$. Absorption bands corresponding to these vibrational modes were observed in the infrared spectrum of the solid.
