Abstract

Colophon: During the Spring of 1993, while a visiting Lecturer in the Creative Writing Program at The Ohio State University, David Rains Wallace worked with Russell McKnight and Robert Tauber designing and producing Chestnut Ridge at the Logan Elm Press. This book is a selection from Idle Weeds which was first published by Sierra Club Books, Inc. in 1981. It is based on a journal David kept while living on Chestnut Ridge from 1975 to 1977 when he was employed by the Columbus and Franklin County Metropolitan Park District, a system of regional, natural parks in central Ohio. The text for this book was printed letterpess by Jack Shifman on Johannot paper from Van Dijck types with Caslon titling and initials. The cover papers were handmade at the press from Abaca and local weed fibers including Goldenrod, Aster, Cattail, Milkweed, Ironweed and Broomshedge. David Wallace's drawings were printed from photo-polymer plates. Acknowledgement is madeto Margaret Evans, Sarah Wallace, mary Kuhner, Cliff Starbuck, Marcia Preston and Robert Boyce for their help in papermaking, printing and binding this edition. Edward F. Hutchins, a noted Ohio conservationist and a member of the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Park District, is due special thanks for his afterword. Of 275 signed and numbered copies, this is copy .
