Abstract

While the entire discrete $He_{2}$ spectrum between $2800-11,500 {\AA}$ is being reinvestigated, the emphasis of this paper will be on the states which are the first stable members of the eight principle Rydberg series: $2s\sigma^{1,3}\Sigma^{+}_{u};2p\pi^{1,2}\Pi_{g};3p\sigma^{1,2}\Sigma^{+}_{g};3d\sigma, \pi, \delta^{1,3}\Sigma^{+}_{u},^{1,3}\Pi_{u}, ^{1,3}\Delta_{u}$ The general lack of vibrational data and the almost complete absence of transitions involving $np\sigma$ MO's have been remedied, as can be seen from the following partial listing of molecular constants. $\begin{array}{llccrrc}&&\omega_{e} &x\omega_{e} & y\omega_{e} &s\omega_{e}& B_{e}\\ ns\sigma & A^{1}\Sigma^{+}_{g} & 1860.5_{7} & 34.64 &-0.178 &&7.779_{e}\\ np\sigma & C^{1}\Sigma^{+\dag}_{g}& 1653.4_{5}& 41.14 & 0.415 &-0.14_{o} & 7.069_{5}\\ np\sigma & C^{2}\Sigma^{+}_{g} & 1595.7_{1} & 63.9_{9}& 5.25 &-.967 &7.00_{0}\end{array}$ The effects of l-uncoupling on the 3d complex, as well as certain aspects of the dissociations of the various states, will also be discussed.
