Abstract
Laser induced fluorescence studied of several symmetrical halobenzene radical cations with electronically degenerate ground states have done much to characterize their vibronic structure. It has been found that single-mode, linear-coupling Jahn-Teller theory is inadequate to account for the above observations. To obtain agreement with experiment it is necessary to take into account several modes simultaneously leading to matrices of order $\sim 10^{3}$. Quadriatic coupling effects are found to be small but not negligible. Good agreement is ultimately obtained between theory and experiment for both line positions and intensities.
