Abstract

The methods of X-ray powder diffraction, differential thermal analysis, and polarized light microscopy were studied. These methods were applied to the identification of a chemical precipitate formed within a ceramic glaze suspension. The compound was identified as Calcium Diborate Tetrahydrate. The occurrence of this compound indicates the need to study the relationship between composition and useful shelf life of ceramic glaze preparations.
