Abstract

“The transmission of water vapor in paths of various lengths has been measured over the spectral range 50 to $500 cm^{-1}$. The experimental results have been applied to the $Goody^{1}$ statistical theory of water vapor transmission. Goody’s expression relating the average transmission and absorber concentration can be written in terms of two parameters, which are simple functions of the absorption line half width, the mean line spacing, and the mean line strength. The variation of these two parameters in the far infrared will be shown.”
