Abstract
The airport provides tours and other educational opportunities, led by Ohio State aviation students, to thousands of students and adults, including programs that offer opportunities to underrepresented populations. The outreach program also offers shadowing opportunities for local high school students and hosts tours for school groups, scouts, and other individuals. In addition, speakers are available to visit local organizations for presentation about the airport's economic role in the community and airport history.
Description
IMPACT. 1: Over 2,000 students annually tour the airport, and many get the opportunity to sit in a single engine plane. Ohio State students who lead these programs gain valuable leadership skills and network with professionals in the aviation industry. -- 2. High school interns shadow airport managers, take sim lessons, get introductory flight lessons, meet local industry partners, and are mentored by Ohio State aviation students. Many of these interns go on to pursue careers in aviation. -- 3. Airport speakers engage community groups and organizations through presentations about the airport's long-term plans, and also focus on the history of the Ohio State Airport.
