Abstract

The use of intense electric fields to alter absorption profiles to determine excited state parameters has been developed for non resolvable rotational absorptions. The details of this method have been discussed in previous meetings. The excited state parameters that are the most reliable and straightforward are excited state dipole moment, excited state polarizability and direction of polarization of the transition moment. This presentation is concerned with the results of studies of the first `s’ and `p’ Rydberg absorptions for dimethyl sulfide (228.4 nm and 195.9 nm) and thiirane (212.2 nm and 192.2 nm) and comparative values for similar compounds.
