Abstract

A systematic study of the intensity of far-infrared, pure rotational laser emission of the molecules OH $(v \leq 4, ^{2}\pi_{1/2})$, OD $(v\leq 2, ^{2}\pi_{1/2})$ and $NH(^{3}{\Sigma^{-}})$ Will be presented. The free radicals are prepared by The reactions, respectively, $O(^{1}D) + H_{2}, O(^{1}D) + D_{2}$ and $NH_{3} + h\nu$ in a large excess of rare gas. The relative importance of possible pumping mechanisms such as $V \rightarrow $R and $R \rightarrow R$ transfer will be discussed, as well as the observed effects of varying the initial concentrations of the reactants.
