Abstract

In an interview James Upton discusses his career at Ohio State, which spanned from 1980-2010. He talks about his research and teaching duties as an associate professor of African-American and African Studies, his role as director of what was formerly called the Black Studies Community Extension Center, now called the African-American and African Studies Community Extension Center, and his appointment as Associate Dean of the Graduate School. In 2005, Upton won the Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching. He retired in 2010.
