Abstract

In the free electron model taking into account the branching of the chain an with M-1 electrons the transition moments an the oscillator strengths “$f_{th}$” for the absorption spectra of some remarkable polymethine dyes I and II are calculated. Measurements of the relative photo dichroism $|\stackrel{\circ}{\Delta}|$ for the first absorption band of dye I are carried out. The intensities “$f_{exp}$” of the absorption bands the corresponding oscillator strenghs “$f_{th}$” for dyes I and II and compared.
