Abstract
Numerous electric dipole allowed, pure rotational transitions in the (0,0,0) and (0,1,0) vibrational levels of the $X_{2} \Sigma^{+}$ state of CaNC have been recorded. The transitions were in the 137 GHz to 370 GHz spectral region and recorded at a resolution of 700 kHz (FWHM). CaNC was produced in a flowing metal reactor chamber via the reaction of Ca and (CN)2. The spectroscopic parameters for the (0,0,0) state are (in MHz): $\begin{array}{lll}\quad B=4048.742(14), & D=4.96(3) \times 10^{-3}, & H=4.1(3) \times 10^{-7},\\ \quad L=-6.0(13) \times 10^{-11}, &P=5.3(20) \times 10^{-15}, & \gamma=18.02(12), \\ \gamma D=-3.2(13) \times 10^{-5}.&&\end{array}$. The large centrifugal distortion constants are a manifestation of non-rigid behavior. The parameters are in good agreement with those of the previous optical $analysis^{1.}$
