Abstract

Mixtures of sulfur dioxide, oxygen, and argon have been subjected to an electrodeless discharge and the gaseous products frozen onto an appropriate substrate maintained at $20^{\circ} K$ . Infrared and laser Raman spectra of the matrix isolated products have been used to identify several unstable sulfur oxides. Identification of new species was confirmed by temperature cycling and isotopic substitution. Possible reaction mechanisms will also be discussed.
