Abstract

The spectrum of single crystals of $Er_{2}O_{3}$ at $80^{\circ}K$ and $10^{\circ}K$ has been investigated in the 0.2 to 1.2 micron wavelength region. Vibronic and electronic transitions are assigned. An analysis of crystalline Stark splittings confirms previous work in the visible and infrared and yields new details of the splittings in the $^{2}K_{13/2}, ^{2}D_{3/2}, ^{4}G_{9/2}$ and $^{2}K_{13/2}$ states in the ultraviolet. Electronic energy levels and wavefunctions have been calculated and agree with the observed spectrum.
