Abstract

The microwave spectrum of NCN3 has been studied between 11 and 36 KMc/sec at −78C. Due to the cumulative quadrupole effects of four N atoms, the observed lines are in general about 2-3 Mc/sec. wide. The μb dipole moment is very small and caused difficulty in the detection of b-type transitions. Low J a-type transitions have been observed for 35NCN3 and N12CN3. Preliminary rotational constants for the normal isotopic species in the ground state are A=38067Mc/sec.B=3184.6Mc/sec.C=2933.7Mc/sec.
