Abstract

The microwave spectrum of $NCN_{3}$ has been studied between 11 and 36 KMc/sec at $-78^{\circ} C$. Due to the cumulative quadrupole effects of four N atoms, the observed lines are in general about 2-3 Mc/sec. wide. The $\mu_{b}$ dipole moment is very small and caused difficulty in the detection of b-type transitions. Low J a-type transitions have been observed for $^{35}NCN_{3}$ and $N^{12}CN_{3}$. Preliminary rotational constants for the normal isotopic species in the ground state are $\begin{array}{lll}A &= &38067 Mc/sec.\\ B &=& 3184.6 Mc/sec.\\ C &=& 2933.7 Mc/sec\end{array}$.
