Abstract

The opportunity that I took on was participating in Arcadia's STEM Summer Research in Dublin, Ireland. Ohio State accepts Acadia University as a third-party addition to their approved education abroad programs. Arcadia pairs with the University of Dublin to connect international students to academics and PHD students in their facilities to be accepted into one of their ongoing research projects. This research transferred to a 3- hour technical elective credit towards my engineering major here at OSU. There was a minimum requirement of two-hundred and forty hours of research and research related studies involved throughout the course of the nine weeks abroad. This was a transformational experience for a multitude of reasons. Academically, I was pushed to further my independent thinking skills and applied what I have learned in the classroom to real life research. Personally, I grew as a person as I took on this new endeavor of living in another country for nine weeks and being in an entirely different culture.
