Abstract
The focus of Shelton's research is on understanding prejudice and discrimination from the target's perspective. During her talk she addressed racial identity in intergroup interactions and examined how these interactions change over time. This stemmed from the research she had been working on that examined interracial freshman roommate relationships at Princeton University. She looked at the roommate's relationships through their interactions and perceptions of one another. One thing her research uncovered was that nonverbal interactions between these roommates influenced their moods and closeness.
