Abstract

The Raman spectra of liquid and solid N214O4 and N215O4 have been examined at −35C using a Cary Model 81 Raman spectrophotometer. Measurements have been made of the isotopic shift of the observed bands. Infrared measurements have also been made of the bands of gaseous and liquid N214O4 and N215O4 using CsBr1, NaCl and CaF2 prisms. Assignments have been made of the observed bands and these assignments will be discussed in the light of the isotopic product rules involved.
