Abstract
The hyperfine-structure of the $v=0, J = 0 \rightarrow J = 1$, transition of the $H^{79}Br$ and $H^{81}Br$ at 500 GHz has been investigated with a high-resolution beam-resolution beam-absorption spectrometer. The ultimate half-width in this investigation of about 7 KHz (corresponding to a resolution of about $1:7\times 10^{7}$) was determined by Heisenberg's principle ($\sim 3$ KHz), residual Doppler broadening, and frequency fluctuations of the frequency stabilizing system. The signal to noise ratio for the hyperfine components varied from about 20 to 50. The results for the various coupling constants are (in kHz): $$\begin{array}{llcc} & & H^{79}Br & H^{81}Br\\ e.q.& Q & 532.304\pm0.007 & 444.679\pm0.007\\ &C^{H} & -41.27\pm0.30 & -41.22\pm0.30\\ &C^{Br} & 290.8\pm0.4 & 313.3\pm0.4\\ &d_{T} & 10.03\pm0.20 & 10.89\pm0.20 \end{array}$$ A description of the experimental set up and a short discussion of the results will be given.
