Abstract

Vibrational relaxation can be probed via correlation functions obtained from Raman band shapes. When dephasing processes dominate the relaxation, the dependence of the rate of relaxation of solvent and on vibrational mode gives important insights into the nature of solvation. This will be illustrated by showing how such effects as ""hydrogen bonding of chloroform"" and ""stacking of benzene on phenyl rings"" manifest themselves in the correlation function.
