Abstract

Raman spectra of $SeO_{2}$ vapor were obtained. The strong, polarized peak at 919.3 $\pm 0.5 cm^{-1}$ was assigned to $v_{1}$ corresponding to the bond-straching mode of vibrations, and the broad peak at 367 $\pm 2 cm^{-1}$ was assigned to $v^{\prime}^{\prime}_{2}$ corresponding to the bending mode of vibrations. UV absorption spectra of $SeO_{2}$ vapor were photographed, and 100 bands were measured between 3100 and 2400 {\AA}. Like previous investigators, we did not observe the $v^{\prime}^{\prime}_{2}$ frequency, According to our vibrational, analysis, the origin was placed a 33 066 $cm^{-1}$, and $v^{\prime}^{\prime}_{1} = 920$, $\nu^{\prime}_{1} = 670$ and $\nu^{\prime}_{3} = 1580$ $cm^{-1}$. Raman work was done at Argonne National Laboratory, under Faculty Research Participation Program, summer, 1970.
